Dr. Sheri Morrissey, DVM, Co-Owner:

Education: Iowa State University

“Dr. Sheri” has been a companion animal and exotic practitioner here at the Altoona Veterinary Hospital since graduating from the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in the spring of 2000. She is married to her husband, Blaine, who is a computer programmer. Together, the Morrissey’s have one daughter, Claire, who was born in September 2007. Dr. Sheri has 3 furry and 1 feathered “children” as well. Two greyhounds, Pirate and Halley; a whippet, Comet; and 1 cockatiel, Herky, round out a busy household. Special interests outside the office include greyhound rescue, Polk County 4-H Dog Project volunteer, training her own dogs in obedience and helping with DMOTC (Des Moines Obedience Club) functions, and landscaping.

Dr. Bill Williams, DVM, Veterinarian/Co-Owner (Altoona/Hubbell):

Education: University of Missouri

Since graduating from the University of Missouri in 1995, “Dr. Bill” has been practicing strictly companion animal medicine in the greater Des Moines Area. His wife, Mandy, is a professor and chair of Veterinary Pathology at the ISU College of Veterinary Medicine. Together they were recognized as “2017 Co-Veterinarians of the Year” by the IVMA and Dr. Bill was the recipient of the College of Veterinary Medicine’s Sweitzer Award later that fall. They have 2 children; Laurel and William, 2 dogs; Cornelia and Jazzy, 1 horse; Emmitt, 1 cat; Spock, and a handsome Red-lored Amazon who sometimes answers to the name Pumpkin. Outside of practice and family duties, Dr. Bill enjoys working in the yard and at the farm, fishing, golfing poorly and working with the IVMA/AVMA.

Kelsey Witte, DVM Associate Veterinarian

Education: Iowa State University

Dr. Kelsey joined the staff in spring 2018. After graduating from Iowa State with her DVM degree in 2014, Dr. Witte spent the next several years in a multi-species practice. There she honed her medical and surgical skills before returning to her Iowa roots. She and her husband, Tyler, live in the country to give them space for their cow (Penelope), 3 alpacas (Grace, Sunkisser, Geronimo), 9 chickens, 1 duck (Zazzles), 4 dogs (Keyva, Jeremiah, Maxine, and Doree), along with several cats.

Dr. Jessica Caligiuri, DVM Associate Veterinarian:

Education: Iowa State University 

Dr. Jess has been a part of the staff since 2015. She is a graduate of the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She and her husband Aaron have their hands full on any given day with their 2 dogs Memphis and Baloo, with Kip the cat there to supervise everyone. When not at work, she enjoys time with friends and family, biking, and going to the movies. Dr. Jess enjoys the variety that every day brings at work while helping the clients and their furry friends.  

Dr. Meredith Pieper, DVM Associate Veterinarian:

Education: Iowa State University 

Dr. Meredith Pieper was born and raised in the West Des Moines area. She always knew she wanted to be an “animal doctor” since the age of 3 and never wavered from that calling. Dr. Pieper attended Iowa State University for both undergrad and veterinary school. She met her husband, Jason, there during their second year of veterinary school. After graduation, Dr. Pieper practiced in Arizona and then Illinois for 9 years, where they lived and worked until returning to central Iowa in 2020. Jason is currently one of the veterinary dermatologists at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Pieper loves surgery, dermatology, behavior, dentistry and internal medicine, but her passion lies with developing lasting relationships with her patients and clients. When not in the clinic, Dr. Pieper loves spending time with her 3 beautiful, young children. They keep her very busy. Along with her human children, she has 2 cats and a 3-legged dog. She also enjoys reading and scrapbooking whenever she gets the spare time. “I love all aspects of veterinary medicine especially developing long-lasting relationships with you and your pets. I look forward to working together to determine the very best care for your pet during all their life stages.”
